Mental Health for Ourselves
Mental health is no less important than physical health. In
its further explanation, WHO said that health is only achieved when a person's
physical, mental, and social condition is in a state of well-being. This
definition is important because health is not just about having or not having a
disease. As WHO said earlier, health encompasses physical, mental,
and social life. The three are interrelated and cannot be separated from each
other. The proof is, researchers found that problematic mental health will
cause changes in a person's body system.
These changes include:
• Increased inflammation
• Changes in heart rate and blood circulation
• Abnormal stress hormones
• And metabolic changes such as in people at risk of
diabetes
These changes in the body's systems can reduce a person's
immune response. As a result, the person is more likely to invite chronic
diseases. Researchers also link mental and physical health to the following
associations:
1. Poor mental health is a factor in chronic illness.
2. People with serious mental health disorders are at high
risk for chronic illness.
3. People with chronic illness are at high risk for mental
health disorders.
In addition to physical health, mental health cannot be
separated from a person's social life. Because they are also interrelated.
As social beings, humans need an exchange of interactions
between each other to be able to maintain their quality of life. People who are
socially isolated, or do not have good social relationships with their
surroundings tend to have difficulty taking care of themselves.
In mental health there are three most common types of
disorders, namely:
1. Anxiety disorders
2. Mood disorders
3. Schizophrenia
By maintaining mental health, you are also indirectly
maintaining your physical health.
What are the ways?
Establish communication with people around
No human being can live alone isolated from others and feel
happy. Studies show that someone with close friends has a risk of experiencing
depression or anxiety in their lifetime.
Follow a healthy routine
Because they are interrelated, doing activities that are
physically healthy will also help improve our mental health.
Create life goals
Creating life goals can help you to try new things. You can
also control your focus more on various positive activities so that you are not
fixated on something that makes it difficult for you.
